Are you missing ubuntu panel????
do not panic, follow this command, in this case i am using Ubuntu 11.04
open terminal, or press CTRL+ALT+F2
and than login your user, after success login, follow command below.
~$ gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/panel
~$ rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/panel
~$ pkill gnome-panel
~$ sudo reboot
